Marjorie Fitton was born on December 18, 1932. She later married Kenneth L. Hodder and together they entered the School for Officers’ Training in the USA Western Territory as cadets in the Courageous session. They were commissioned as Salvation Army officers on May 26, 1958.

Following Lieutenant Marjorie Hodder’s commissioning, she served together with her husband as corps/center officers, including appointments at Modesto Citadel, Fresno Citadel, Oakland Citadel and San Francisco Mission. She received the rank of captain in May 1961.

In June 1970, Captain Hodder was appointed to USA Western Territorial Headquarters, where she served firstly as Territorial Education Bureau Director and then as Assistant Property Secretary.

From June 1972 until June 1974, the now Major Marjorie L. Hodder served as Nurses’ Fellowship Secretary in Southern California. She then moved to the Northwest Division where she served as Assistant Divisional Home League Secretary before being appointed to the School for Officer Training in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on  July 2, 1975. For the next four years she served here as Director of Spiritual Services.

From June 1979 until April 1985, Marjorie was appointed Divisional Director of Women’s Services and Home League Secretary, firstly in the Northwest Division and then in the Southern California Division, where she received the rank of lieutenant colonel in August 1981.

A move to the USA Central Territory came in April 1985, with Lieut. Colonel Hodder’s appointment to the Territorial Women’s Department, after which, with the rank of colonel, she transferred to the Australia Southern Territory to serve in the Territorial Women’s Department there.

A return to the USA came in 1989, with the now Commissioner Marjorie J. Hodder’s appointment as Territorial President of Women’s Organizations, USA Southern Territory.

In August 1993 Commissioner Hodder transferred to the USA National Headquarters, with her appointment being National President of Women’s Organizations. It was from this appointment that she entered retirement on 31 October 1995.

The commissioner, together with her husband Commissioner Kenneth L. Hodder, enjoyed many years in retirement in Sun City Center, Florida. Commissioner Kenneth L. Hodder was promoted to Glory on May 1, 2023.
